Muchas veces este se ha reducido de una manera funcionalista, aunque debería estar más relacionado tanto con procesos de educación formal como de educación no formal e informal. Constatamos como la educación a lo largo de la vida instrumentaliza y emancipa al mismo tiempo, por tanto podemos aproximarnos a este concepto desde una doble perspectiva. La primera se centra en explotar los recursos económicos y culturales en las sociedades occidentales. La segunda es una visión más centrada en la ciencia de la educación, en los actores sociales individuales y en su biograficidad. Este trabajo se centra en las tensiones que se dan entre estas dos perspectivas.]]></p></abstract>

Muitas vezes operou-se uma redução funcionalista, ainda que tenha conseguido relacionar com os processos de educação formal, como não formal e informal. Constatamos como a educação ao longo da vida instrumentaliza e emancipa ao mesmo tempo, isso nos permitiu nossa aproximação desse conceito em uma dupla perspectiva. A primeira está dedicada a explorar os recursos econômicos e culturais nas sociedades ocidentais. A segunda é uma visão mais centrada na ciência da educação, nos atores sociais individuais e em sua biografização. Este trabalho se ocupa das tensões que se dão entre estas duas perspectivas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Over the last few years there has been a debate about the concept of lifelong learning. It has often been reduced in a functionalist way, although it should be more related to formal, non-formal and informal learning processes. We can see how education throughout life both instrumentalizes and emancipates at the same time, so we can approach this concept from a double perspective. The first focuses on exploiting economic and cultural resources in Western societies. The second is a vision more focused on the science of education, on individual social actors and their biographies. This paper focuses on the tensions between these two perspectives.]]></p></abstract>

La seconde est une vision plus centrée sur la science de l'éducation, sur les acteurs sociaux individuels et leurs biographies.
