A partir de este hecho en la actualidad existen once universidades interculturales. Dentro de este contexto este trabajo presenta información relacionada con la historia de las universidades interculturales, el objetivo que persiguen desde la propuesta del modelo intercultural, mención de algunas experiencias de otras universidades interculturales y autónomas en América Latina y por último las principales contribuciones hechas desde el caso concreto de la Universidad Intercultural del Estado de Hidalgo (UICEH).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo A primeira universidade intercultural do México foi fundada em 2003, com a finalidade de ampliar a matrícula de estudantes indígenas na educação superior. A partir desta data até hoje foram criadas onze universidades interculturais. Neste contexto, este artigo procura retraçar a história das universidades interculturais, assim como o objetivo da proposta do modelo intercultural, mostrando algumas experiências de outras universidades interculturais e autónomas na América Latina. Por último apresenta as principais contribuições desse modelo tendo como caso concreto a Universidade Intercultural do Estado de Hidalgo (UICEH).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Mexico's first intercultural university was founded in 2003 with the purpose of expanding the enrollment of indigenous students in higher education. From this date until today eleven intercultural universities were created. In this context, this article seeks to retrace the history of intercultural universities, as well as the purpose of the intercultural model, showing some experiences of other intercultural and autonomous universities in Latin America. Finally, it presents the main contributions of this model, having as specific case the Intercultural University of the State of Hidalgo (UICEH).]]></p></abstract>
