Este estudo teve o objetivo de levantar os conhecimentos de pais sobre problemas de comportamento. Participaram da pesquisa 79 pais de crianças pré-escolares e escolares que preencheram a um questionário composto por cinco questões. Em relação ao conhecimento do que são problemas de comportamento, os pais apontaram: comportamentos, atitudes e hábitos não apropriados; desvios do comportamento; desajustamento quanto aos padrões comportamentais pré-estabelecidos; distúrbios; dificuldade em saber como se comportar. Quanto às características dos problemas de comportamento externalizantes, segundo os pais têm-se, comportar-se de modo agressivo e ter acessos de raiva, e dos problemas de comportamento internalizantes os pais destacaram isolamento e baixa auto-estima. Quanto às causas dos problemas comportamentais, os fatores familiares foram apontados como tendo maior influência. Os dados fornecem informações sobre como a questão dos problemas de comportamento é compreendida pelos pais, contribuindo para subsidiar intervenções com o foco de orientar familiares sobre a prevenção dos problemas comportamentais.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The causes and characteristics of the behavior problems are diverse and describe this phenomenon is important in order to promote educational interventions. This study aimed to examining parental knowledge about behavioral problems. The participants were 79 parents of preschool children and schoolchildren who completed a questionnaire composed of five questions. With respect to their knowledge about child behavioral problems, parents described their perceptions such as: misbehavior, inappropriate attitudes and habits; behavior deviations; divergent patterns of behavior; disruptive behavior; and difficulty in knowing how to behave. Regarding the characteristics of externalizing behavior problems, according to parents their children behave aggressively and have temper tantrums, and with respect to internalizing behavior problems parents highlighted isolation and low self-esteem. Concerning the causes of behavior problems, they emphasized family factors as determinants of child outcome. The data provide information on the issue of behavior problems is understood by parents, helping to support interventions with a focus to guide families on the prevention of behavioral problems.]]></p></abstract>
