Na primeira década do século XX, Armanda lidou com diferentes manifestações dessas forças em suas relações sociais, com representações das mais divergentes ideologias. O artigo contextualiza a trajetória da educadora, em epígonos biográficos tais como seu envolvimento na Associação Brasileira de Educação e na União Feminina do Brasil, da qual foi a primeira presidente; seu aprisionamento político; e sua participação como signatária do Manifesto dos Pioneiros da Educação Nova. É discutido o uso ofensivo do conceito de comunismo que foi dirigido à Armanda e reflete-se acerca da continuidade no uso desse termo como modo de desqualificar a educação ainda hoje. Nas conclusões são destacados os elementos de inovação pedagógicas presentes em suas propostas e a dimensão afetiva com a qual sua atuação marcou indelevelmente a educação brasileira.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The article aims to analyze through research involving bibliographic and documentary sources, the clashes between political forces (such as eugenics, hygienism, authoritarianism and racism) and practices of resistance to these same forces in the context of educator Armanda Álvaro Alberto, who was principal of the Escola Regional do Meriti in Duque de Caxias-RJ. In the first decade of the 20th century, Armanda dealt with different manifestations of these forces in their social relations, with representations of the most divergent ideologies. The article contextualizes the educator's trajectory, in biographical epigones such as her involvement in the Brazilian Education Association and the Brazilian Women's Union, of which she was the first president; his political imprisonment; and her participation as a signatory of the Manifesto of the Pioneers of New Education. The offensive use of the concept of communism that was directed at Armanda is discussed and is scrutinized the ongoing use of this term as a way of disqualifying education. In the conclusions, the elements of pedagogical innovation presented in her proposals and the affective dimension with which her performance indelibly marked Brazilian education are highlighted.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen El artículo pretende analizar, a través de una investigación que involucra fuentes bibliográficas y documentales, los debates de fuerzas políticas como la eugenesia, el higienismo, el autoritarismo y el racismo (así como las prácticas de resistencia a estas mismas fuerzas) en el contexto de la educadora Armanda Álvaro Alberto como directora de la Escuela Regional Meriti en Duque de Caxias-RJ. En la primera década del siglo XX, Armanda abordó diferentes manifestaciones de estas fuerzas en sus relaciones sociales, con representaciones de las ideologías más divergentes. El artículo contextualiza la trayectoria de la educadora, en epígonos biográficos como su participación en la Asociación Brasileña de Educación y en la Unión Brasileña de Mujeres, de la que fue primera presidenta; su encarcelamiento político; y su participación como firmante del Manifiesto de los Pioneros de la Nueva Educación. Se discute el uso ofensivo del concepto de comunismo que fue dirigido a Armanda y se reflexiona sobre el uso continuado de este término como forma de descalificar la educación aún hoy. En las conclusiones se subrayan los elementos de innovación pedagógica presentados en sus propuestas y la dimensión afectiva con la que su actuación marcó indeleblemente la educación brasileña.]]></p></abstract>
