O Centro, que ofertou aulas de corte e costura, bordado, crochê, tricô, manicure-pedicure e artes culinárias e caseiras, não foi uma iniciativa autônoma da Federação, entretanto seus cursos revelavam sintonia com as ideias dos espíritas da FEP ao reforçar competências consideradas femininas, formando mulheres para que, mesmo atuando fora do lar, se ocupassem de funções idealizadas à &#8220;mãe de família&#8221;. Este artigo foi escrito a partir da análise de relatos memorialísticos da Federação Espírita do Paraná e dos jornais Mundo Espírita, Diário da Tarde e O Dia. Estudos de Michelle Perrot embasam a abordagem do artigo e também as reflexões motivadas por textos sobre o espiritismo e sobre a mulher nos séculos XIX e XX.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This article discusses two actions related to women&#8217;s education for work in Curitiba at the Icléa Children&#8217;s Home of the Paraná Spiritist Federation, between 1954 and 1958: the artisanship classes and domestic skills and the courses of the Center of Professional Initiation Lar Icléa. The Center, which offered classes in cutting and sewing, embroidery, crocheting, knitting, manicure-pedicure and culinary and home-made arts, was not an autonomous initiative of the Federation. However, its courses were in harmony with the ideas of the Federation spiritists, by reinforcing women&#8217;s skills, forming women so that, even if they worked outside the home, they would take on idealized functions for the housewives. This article was written from the analysis of memorialistic reports of the Spiritist Federation of Paraná and of the newspapers Mundo Espírita, Diário da Tarde and O Dia. Studies by Michelle Perrot served as a basis for the article&#8217;s approach, together with reflections on texts on spiritism and women in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.]]></p></abstract>
