Compulsaram-se um conjunto de revistas de educação publicadas em Portugal. A análise detetou tendências e nuances do processo de modernização pedagógica. Certos autores defendem o ambiente familiar como o mais adequado para a educação da infância, destacando a mulher como mãe e educadora, outros denunciam a sua impreparação, advogando a sua formação e sustentavam a conveniência da educação de infância em instituições, segundo as modernas propostas pedagógicas. Estes últimos tenderam a manifestar posicionamentos idênticos aos que se expressam em outros países europeus sobre os modelos pedagógicos direcionados especificamente à segunda infância.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN En este artículo se pretende una comprensión de las ideas sobre la educación de la segunda infancia en Portugal, entre finales del siglo XIX y la primera mitad del siguiente. Compulsaran un conjunto de revistas educativas publicadas en Portugal. El análisis detectó tendencias y matices del proceso de modernización pedagógica. Algunos autores defienden el ambiente familiar como el más adecuado para la educación de la infancia, destacando a la mujer como madre y educadora, otros denuncian su impreparación, abogando su formación y sostenían la conveniencia de la educación de infancia en instituciones, según las modernas propuestas pedagógicas. Estos últimos tienden a manifestar posicionamientos idénticos a los que se expresan en otros países europeos sobre los modelos pedagógicos dirigidos específicamente a la segunda infancia.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT In this article we search for an understanding of the ideas about childhood education in Portugal, between the end of the 19th century and the middle of the next. A set of educational journals published in Portugal were consulted. The analysis detected tendencies and nuances of the process of pedagogical modernization. Some authors defend the family environment as the most appropriate for the education of the child, highlighting the woman as mother and educator, others denounce their lack of preparation, advocate their formation and support the convenience of child education in institutions, according to modern pedagogical proposals. This last ones tended to express similar positions to those expressed in other European countries about pedagogical models specifically aimed at second childhood.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="fr"><p><![CDATA[RÉSUMÉ Dans cet article, nous cherchons à comprendre les idées sur l'éducation de la deuxième infance au Portugal, entre la fin du 19ème siècle et le milieu de le suivante. Il a été consulté un ensemble diversifié de journaux d&#8217;éducation publiés au Portugal. L'analyse a détecté des tendances et des nuances dans le processus de modernisation pédagogique. Certains auteurs défendent l'environnement familial comme étant le plus approprié pour l'éducation des enfants, soulignant la femme comme mère et éducatrice, d'autres dénonçant leur manque de préparation, préconisant leur formation et soutenant la commodité de l'éducation de l'enfant dans les institutions, selon des propositions pédagogiques modernes. Ces derniers ont eu tendance à exprimer des positions similaires à celles exprimées dans d&#8217;autres pays européens à propos de modèles pédagogiques spécifiquement destinés à la seconde enfance.]]></p></abstract>
