A coleta de dados se deu por meio de um question&#225;rio aplicado a 168 alunos, 48 professores e 21 gestores do Ensino Fundamental e 5 especialistas da Rede Municipal de Ensino de uma cidade do interior do estado de S&#227;o Paulo, que adota o sistema de ciclos e progress&#227;o continuada. Foi verificado que a maioria dos participantes apresentou como necess&#225;rias a reprova&#231;&#227;o escolar e pequenas mudan&#231;as nas a&#231;&#245;es avaliativas da escola, assim sendo, uma forte tend&#234;ncia dos ideais da seria&#231;&#227;o com algumas ideias de Progress&#227;o Continuada e Ciclos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[This article presents a research about the meanings attributed to the evaluation practiced and school failure. The data collection was carried out through a questionnaire administered to 168 students, 48 teachers and 21 administrators of elementary school and 5 experts of Municipal Schools a city in the state of S&#227;o Paulo, that adopts the system of cycles and continued progression. It was found that most participants presented as necessary school failure and small changes in evaluative actions of school, therefore, a strong tendency of the ideals of serialization with some ideas on Continued Progression and Cycles.]]></p></abstract>
