Os autores sugerem que o desconhecimento do professor quanto às variáveis inerentes ao processo de leitura seja talvez uma das principais causas da "Crise da Leitura"no Brasil. Os autores ainda propõem uma lista pressupostos básicos, que releva a importância da leitura do contexto educacional e a necessidade de mais pesquisas na área.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The purpose of this article is to focus attention upon reading problems present in the Brazilian educational system. The authors suggest that the educators' lack of knowledge and understanding of the salient variables involved in the reading process is perhaps one of the main causes of the "Brazilian Reading Crisis". The authors also propose alist of basic assumptions which emphasizes the importance of reading within the educational context and the need for more research devoted to this problem.]]></p></abstract>
