<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The article examines the legislation as well as documents produced by the Brazilian Ministry of Education concerning the Fund for Maintenance and Development of the Compulsory 8 year School Education and Valorization of Teaching Personnel and concerning teachers valorization and salaries and it concludes that the difficulties in understanding the subject derives a great deal from non-consistent wording in the legislation itself and from the many mistakes contained in official documents claiming to provide explanation and guidance.]]></p></abstract>
