Based on the case of Honduras and as part of a more extensive study, the article draws methodologically on in-depth interviews with policymakers and stakeholders, a review of historical sources, and a theoretical examination of studies on global educational policy, international political economy, world-systems theory, and post-colonial studies. Our analysis leads to the conceptualization of what is called the “ethos of privatization”, a form of privatization inherent to the post-colonial State that explains how private benefit is the logic that drives the system.
</abstract>
