O contexto político das últimas décadas no Brasil moldou o tema e fortaleceu a ideia de participação popular como exercício democrático também no contexto escolar. O texto busca aprofundar esse debate, permeado de ambivalências no sistema educacional brasileiro, recuperando sua história legal, explorando alguns dados educacionais e o diálogo com a produção acadêmica local e com estudos internacionais sobre &#8220;liderança distribuída&#8221;. Buscamos argumentar sobre a necessidade de ampliação da compreensão do conceito, na pesquisa, na agenda política e na vida escolar.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The relationship between schools and democracy has been a recurring theme in educational literature since the early 20th century. The political context of the last few decades in Brazil has shaped this discourse and strengthened the notion of popular participation as a democratic practice within the school environment as well. This text seeks to deepen this debate, permeated by ambivalences in the Brazilian educational system. It revisits its legal history, explores educational data, and engages in dialogue with both local academic production and international studies on &#8220;distributed leadership&#8221;. We seek to argue for the need to broaden the understanding of this concept in research, policy agendas, and everyday school life.]]></p></abstract>

Le cadre politique des dernières décennies au Brésil a empreint ce sujet et a renforcé l&#8217;idée de participation populaire en tant qu&#8217;exercice de démocratie même dans le contexte de l&#8217;école. C&#8217;essai cherche à approfondir ce débat impregné d&#8217;ambigüités qui a lieu au système éducatif brésilien, selon son histoire législative, l&#8217;analyse de quelques données éducationnelles et le dialogue avec la production académique nationale et étrangère sur le &#8220;leadership distribué&#8221;. On plaide pour le besoin d&#8217;approfondir la compréhension de cette notion dans le domaine de la recherche, dans l&#8217;agenda politique et dans la vie scolaire.]]></p></abstract>
