Por meio de seus saberes, elas nos permitem conhecer não apenas seus hábitos, cotidianos e brincadeiras, mas, também, um amplo conjunto de conhecimentos sobre a sociedade em que vivem. Nesta pesquisa, um grupo de dezesseis meninos e meninas da periferia de Porto Alegre é chamado a colocar em relevo seus conhecimentos sobre a velhice, trazendo à tona, por meio de discussões realizadas em encontros de grupo focal, como o velho é concebido e representado na contemporaneidade. Os saberes das crianças fazem referência a um amplo currículo cultural que produz e legitima enunciados discursivos sobre o corpo que envelhece. Enunciados que, ao relacionarem o corpo-velho a determinados atributos, acabam por controlar seus modos de ser, de fazer e de viver.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Children have a lot to say about the social culture surrounding them. Through their background, children enable us discovering their habits, their day-to-day life, their games, as well as their wide knowledge on the society they live in. In this research, a group of sixteen boys and girls from the outskirts of Porto Alegre are called to show their knowledge regarding elderly. Throughout the discussions, which were carried out in focal group meetings, it is possible to realize how the elderly is conceived and represented in contemporaneous time. Therefore, children’s knowledge shows a wide cultural curriculum which produces and legitimates discursive statements on the aging body. Such statements relates the old-body to certain attributes and ultimately influence their way of being, acting and living.]]></p></abstract>
