Dentre as contribuições, salientam-se: (a) a filosofia de respeito ao processo de desenvolvimento do aluno; (b) os estudos da psicogênese do conceito de língua escrita; (c) as propostas para a formação do alfabetizador; (d) a posição sobre quando se devem alfabetizar as funções da avaliação. Dentre as lacunas, são discutidas: (a) a não-consideração das diferenças entre leitura e escrita: (b) a falta de explicações, para diferenças individuais; e (c) a não-consideração das conseqüências da alfabetização para a aprendizagem e o raciocínio via língua escrita e para a ampliação das possibilidades de ação do sujeito.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The contributions and gaps in constructivism as a theory of reading are discussed. The following contributions are emphasized: (a) a philosophy which proposes respect for the child’s developmental processes; (b) the contributions towards understanding children’s conceptions of writing; (C) guidelines for teacher education; and (d) ideas about when to offer reading instruction and the purpose of school evaluations. The following gaps are discussed: (a) lack of consideration of differences between reading and spelling; (b) absence of explanations for individual differences; and (c) lack of analysis of the consequences of literacy both in terms of learning and reasoning with written language and in terms of amplification of subjects’ range action.]]></p></abstract>
