Apesar da componente social não ser coisa nova na discussão sobre a função da escola e das instituições educativas, reflete-se também sobre a aprendizagem que é realizada com o recurso a ambientes virtuais e os novos desafios que a dimensão tecnológica vem colocar a essas instituições. Para além de uma introdução inicial em que se apresenta e se situa a problemática das comunidades de aprendizagem, são depois abordadas algumas das mais significativas dimensões do conceito e perspectivado o seu estudo ao longo do tempo desde os trabalhos fundadores de Vygotsky. O texto termina com alguns desafios que a ideia de comunidade de aprendizagem coloca à escola, nomeadamente em um tempo em que as tecnologias digitais e em rede trouxeram trazer novos horizontes à sua função primeira: a da educação das novas gerações.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[This article examines the concept of Virtual Learning Communities in the light of theoretical references that in recent years have encouraged the conceptualization, organization and development of learning communities. Although a social component is nothing new in the discussion about the function of schools and educational institutions, this paper reflects on the learning that is undertaken using virtual environments and the new challenges that the technological dimension brings to these institutions. In addition to an initial introduction that maps and situates the learning communities, some of the most significant dimensions of the concept are then discussed, and its study over time since Vygotsky’s foundational work is analyzed. The text concludes by focusing on some challenges that the idea of the learning community engenders for schools, namely at a time in which digital and network technologies are bringing new horizons to their original function: the education of new generations.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Este artículo aborda el concepto de comunidad virtual de aprendizaje a la luz de los referentes teóricos que en los últimos años están siendo utilizados para la conceptualización, organización y desarrollo de comunidades de aprendizaje. Así como el componente social no es algo nuevo en el debate sobre la función de la escuela y de las instituciones educativas, se refleja también en el aprendizaje que se realiza en entornos virtuales y en los nuevos desafíos que la dimensión tecnológica coloca en estas instituciones. Además de una introducción en que se presenta y se sitúa la problemática de las comunidades de aprendizaje, se abordan algunas de las dimensiones más importantes del concepto, desde los trabajos iniciales de Vygotsky. El texto finaliza con algunos de los desafíos que la idea de comunidad de aprendizaje coloca en la escuela, justamente en el momento en que las tecnologías digitales y en red le trajeron nuevos horizontes a su función primera: la educación de las nuevas generaciones.]]></p></abstract>
