O artigo tem como objetivo apresentar o diagnóstico das condições de trabalho docente, observando as diferenças entre os setores que compõem a educação superior. Através da análise dos dados do Censo da Educação Superior, argumentamos que, embora a escolaridade possa ser uma proxy de qualidade, outros elementos condicionam a qualidade do trabalho docente e, por conseguinte, da educação superior. Os resultados indicam diferenças entre os setores público e privado e, dentro deste, entre as instituições com e sem fins lucrativos. Conclui-se que a valorização das condições de trabalho é essencial para a qualidade da educação.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN La meta 13 del Plan Nacional de Educación 2014-2024 enfatiza el aumento de la proporción de maestros y doctores en la educación superior como uno de los indicadores de calidad. Este artículo tiene como objetivo presentar un diagnóstico de las condiciones laborales docentes, observando las diferencias entre los sectores que conforman la educación superior. Mediante el análisis de datos del Censo da Educação Superior [Censo de Educación Superior], argumentamos que, si bien la escolaridad pueda ser un proxy de calidad, otros elementos influyen en la calidad del trabajo docente y, en consecuencia, de la educación superior. Los resultados indican diferencias entre los sectores público y privado y, dentro de este último, entre las instituciones con y sin fines de lucro. Se concluye que la valorización de las condiciones laborales es esencial para la calidad de la educación.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Goal 13 of Brazil&#8217;s 2014-2024 National Education Plan emphasizes increasing the proportion of teachers with master&#8217;s and doctoral degrees as a key indicator of quality in higher education. This article aims to present a diagnosis of faculty working conditions, highlighting the differences among the sectors that comprise higher education. Based on data from the Censo da Educação Superior [Higher Education Census], we argue that while education may serve as a proxy for quality, other factors significantly influence the quality of academic work and, consequently, the quality of higher education. The results indicate differences between public and private sectors, and within the private sector itself, between for-profit and non-profit institutions. The study concludes that improving faculty working conditions is essential to ensuring quality education.]]></p></abstract>
