Constata-se que a expans&#227;o do Ensino M&#233;dio se estrutura dentro de um cen&#225;rio constitu&#237;do pelas recentes pol&#237;ticas educacionais, pelos resultados das avalia&#231;&#245;es externas, pela escassez de docentes e, ainda, pelas pol&#237;ticas de forma&#231;&#227;o de novos professores, associados &#224;s demandas dos jovens brasileiros. O objetivo deste texto &#233; apresentar dados e an&#225;lises, a partir de uma revis&#227;o bibliogr&#225;fica, no intuito de compreender os caminhos que norteiam &#224; educa&#231;&#227;o secund&#225;ria no pa&#237;s. Os principais referenciais adotados s&#227;o os documentos oficiais MEC/INEP, al&#233;m de relat&#243;rios de pesquisas e estudos que t&#234;m o m&#233;rito de pensar as principais quest&#245;es sobre este segmento de ensino. Identificam-se novos e velhos desafios, al&#233;m de avan&#231;os e entraves, por&#233;m sem negar sua expans&#227;o e posi&#231;&#227;o estrat&#233;gica na forma&#231;&#227;o da juventude e na constru&#231;&#227;o de um modelo de sociedade mais igualit&#225;rio e justo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[AbstractIn Brazil, the reality of high school becomes tariff in research agendas in education. The expansion of secondary education has been observed to occur in the context of the implementation of recent educational policies, the results of independent evaluations on the deficit of number of teacher, and also of new teacher&#8217; training policies, resulting from the demands of young Brazilians. This study aims to present data and analysis from a literature review to understand the principles that guide secondary education in Brazil. The primary sources are the official documents from the MEC and INEP, as well as research reports and studies that consider the primary issues of this educational field. They identify past and future challenges, developments and impediments, while acknowledging its expansion and strategic position in the molding of the youth and the construction of a more equitable and just society.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[ResumenEn Brasil, la realidad de la escuela secundaria se convierte en punto de discusi&#243;n en los programas de investigaci&#243;n en materia de educaci&#243;n. Se observa que la expansi&#243;n de la educaci&#243;n secundaria se estructura en un escenario constituido por pol&#237;ticas educativas recientes, por los resultados de las evaluaciones externas, por la escasez de maestros, y tambi&#233;n, por las pol&#237;ticas de formaci&#243;n de nuevos profesores, asociados a las demandas de los j&#243;venes brasile&#241;os. El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar los datos y el an&#225;lisis, a partir de una revisi&#243;n de la literatura, con el fin de entender los principios que gu&#237;an a la educaci&#243;n secundaria en este pa&#237;s. Los principales marcos adoptados son los documentos oficiales MEC / INEP, as&#237; como informes de investigaci&#243;n y estudios que tienen el m&#233;rito de pensar los problemas principales en este segmento educativo.
