Focalizamos especialmente as relações entre a oferta de escolas e a demanda dos diferentes grupos da população rural. Para tanto, pautamo-nos em algumas pesquisas realizadas na perspectiva histórico-sociológica, procurando analisar as questões encontradas em épocas pretéritas e sua persistência ou reformulação no tempo presente, em que novos sujeitos compõem o rural. Tomamos como locus de análise o Estado de São Paulo, que passou por profundas transformações no período considerado.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[In this paper, we revisit the issue of rural education, seeking to address some issues which go along with it since the late nineteenth century to the present days. We focus especially on the relationship between supply and demand of schools of different groups of the rural population. To this end, we based ourselves upon studies in the historical and sociological perspective, trying to analyze the issues highlighted in past times and their persistence or reformulation in the present time, in which new individuals are part of the countryside. We take as a locus of analysis the state of São Paulo, which has undergone profound changes over the considered period.]]></p></abstract>
