Distingue dois tipos de tratamento na tematização dos jovens nos meios de comunicação: a) cultura e comportamento; b) problemas sociais. Nos estudos acadêmicos a ênfase recai sobre a discussão dos sistemas e instituições presentes na vida do jovem ou estruturas sociais que conformam situações problemáticas. As ONGs concentram seus programas para juventude em dois blocos: 1) programas de ressocialização; 2) programas de capacitação profissional. No campo governamental, demonstra - timidez das ações para a população jovem.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The author analyzes the appearance of youth as a social theme in academic studies, in the media as well as among political and institutional actors - both governmental and non governmental. Two types of treatment are given to this theme in the media: a) culture and behavior; b) social problems. The academic studies emphasize the discussion of systems and institutions present in youngsters' lives or social structures that constitute problematic situations. NGO's concentrate their programs for youth in two areas: 1) programs to resocialize; 2) programs for professional qualification. Government agencies have been timid in developing programs for youngsters.]]></p></abstract>
