No ensino, o conceito de átomo permeia os currículos de maneira transversal, sendo abordado diretamente no conteúdo de modelos atômicos. Tendo isso em vista, esse artigo apresenta uma análise qualitativa do modelo atômico de Thomson apresentado pelos livros didáticos de ciências do ensino médio do PNLD 2021. Primeiro, o desenvolvimento histórico dos trabalhos de Thomson foi analisado a partir de fontes históricas primárias e secundárias, utilizando a epistemologia histórica de Gaston Bachelard. Em seguida, procedeu-se à avaliação do rigor histórico-filosófico do material dos livros didáticos. Identificou-se um modelo de Thomson distorcido, cujo desenvolvimento histórico é apresentado de maneira superficial e descontextualizada, omitindo elementos epistemológicos relevantes para a sua compreensão crítica. Com base nas análises, são apontadas perspectivas para ampliar a exploração de aspectos histórico-epistemológicos do modelo de Thomson no ensino.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Atomism is an indispensable doctrine for modern chemistry, representing many epistemological and historical aspects of this science. In chemical education, the concept of atom is present in curricula in a latent manner, taking a central part in the content related to atomic models. Thus, this article presents a qualitative analysis of Thomson&#8217;s atomic model found in high-school science textbooks participating in the PNLD 2021. First, an analysis of the historical development of Thomson&#8217;s work was conducted through primary and secondary sources, which were analyzed through Gaston Bachelard&#8217;s historical epistemology. Next, based on such analyzes, the historical-philosophical rigor of the textbooks was evaluated. A distorted and superficial form of Thomson&#8217;s model and of its historical development was found, omitting epistemological elements necessary for its critical comprehension. Based on the criticism brought forward, we propose perspectives that may help with the exploration of epistemological and historical aspects of Thomson&#8217;s atom.]]></p></abstract>
