Extensa literatura mostra que essa variável influencia a aceitação de crenças científicas, como a Teoria da Evolução. As representações RCR foram estudadas em sua associação com outras variáveis, principalmente crenças e atitudes sobre natureza da ciência. O instrumento de coleta de dados inclui itens do Cuestionario de Opiniones sobre Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad (COCTS), itens referentes aos modelos de RCR segundo a taxonomia de Barbour, crenças sobre história da RCR, formação acadêmica e informações sociodemográficas. Os dados sugerem adesão à imagem da independência entre ciência e religião, representações pouco sofisticadas da ciência, também crenças ingênuas sobre RCR. Foram notadas diferenças entre as crenças segundo o tipo de formação acadêmica e afiliação religiosa. Os resultados apontam influência de crenças e atitudes acerca da ciência sobre representações da RCR, com implicações para a educação científica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: This study investigates students' beliefs about science and religion relations (SRR). Extensive literature shows that this variable influences the acceptance of scientific beliefs, such as the theory of evolution. SRR representations were examined about other variables, primarily beliefs and attitudes about the nature of science. The data collection instrument includes items from the Cuestionario de Opiniones sobre Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad (COCTS), plus SRR items (according to Barbour's taxonomy), items on beliefs about the history of SRR, academic training, and socio-demographic information. The data suggest adherence to the views of independence between science and religion, unsophisticated representations of science, and naïve beliefs about SRR. Differences in beliefs were found according to the type of academic training and religious affiliation. The results indicate the influence of beliefs and attitudes about science on representations of SRR, with implications for science education.]]></p></abstract>
