Diante do exposto, a problemática de pesquisa visa a investigar quais são as publicações brasileiras sobre alfabetização para pessoas com síndrome de Down. A presente revisão de literatura, que não definiu período para as publicações selecionadas, teve por objetivo geral apresentar os resultados de pesquisas brasileiras que abordam essa temática. O método constou de levantamento e análise dos textos disponíveis nas bases de dados do Portal de Periódicos Capes, Scientific Electronic Library Online, Google Acadêmico e a Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações da Universidade de São Paulo por meio de buscas com as expressões &#8220;Síndrome de Down&#8221; e &#8220;Alfabetização&#8221;. Os principais resultados foram organizados conforme a seguinte classificação: estudos que abordam estratégias utilizadas por crianças com síndrome de Down para ler e/ou escrever, estudos que correlacionam habilidades fonológicas, pesquisas que descrevem como foi o processo de alfabetização e os que têm como foco o professor durante a alfabetização. Pode-se concluir que há carência de estudos que descrevem os processos cognitivos envolvidos no processo de alfabetização da pessoa com síndrome de Down, bem como trabalhos que correlacionam verbalização e produção escrita para a referida síndrome.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Down syndrome is generated by the excess of genetic material on chromosome 21, causing several comorbidities, such as cognitive and motor impairment, and creating concern for parents and teachers regarding literacy. Considering that, the present research aims to investigate the Brazilian publications on literacy for people with Down syndrome. The literature review, which did not have a defined period for the selected publications, had the general objective of presenting the results of Brazilian researches that address this theme. The method consisted of surveying and analyzing the texts available in the databases of Portal de Periódicos Capes, Scientific Electronic Library Online, Google Scholar, and the Digital Library of theses and Dissertations of the University of São Paulo, through searches with the expression &#8220;Down Syndrome&#8221; and &#8220;Literacy&#8221;. The main results were organized according to the following classification: studies that address strategies used by children with Down syndrome to read and/or write, studies that correlate phonological skills, research that describes how the literacy process was, and those that focus on the teacher&#8217;s role during that process. We conclude that there is a lack of studies that describe the cognitive processes involved in the literacy process of persons with Down syndrome, as well as studies that correlate verbalization and written production for that syndrome.]]></p></abstract>
