Com base em registros de campo e pesquisas existentes são discutidas as condições de acesso e permanência de estudantes indígenas em algumas universidades do País. São também descritas e analisadas as demandas por eles colocadas, suas principais dificuldades e as experiências que vivenciam no espaço universitário. Deste modo, pretende-se contribuir com pesquisas em um campo ainda pouco explorado, o da educação escolar indígena, que tem se tornado uma importante demanda do movimento indígena, mas ainda é objeto de pouca reflexão analítica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Current investigation presents an overview of the situation of indigenous higher education in Brazil, with special focus on policies implemented by the Brazilian government and on affirmative action programs for indigenous students by government universities. Foregrounded on field records and research, access conditions and permanence of indigenous students in Brazilian university are investigated. Students’ demands, their main difficulties and experiences within the university context are also described and analyzed. The essay endeavors to be a contribution on a still unexplored field in indigenous education and schooling, which has become an important issue within the indigenous movement although it still lacks serious analytical reflection.]]></p></abstract>
