Amparamo-nos na perspectiva hist&#243;rico-cultural considerando, especialmente, os estudos de Vygotsky. A coleta de materialidades emp&#237;ricas aconteceu nas cinco fam&#237;lias das crian&#231;as cegas ou com baixa vis&#227;o pesquisadas e na institui&#231;&#227;o especializada que elas frequentam. Adotamos entrevistas semiestruturadas com pais e educadores e observa&#231;&#245;es nos contextos mencionados. Os dados coletados foram categorizados e teorizados por meio da an&#225;lise de conte&#250;do. Conclu&#237;mos que a media&#231;&#227;o de outra pessoa durante o brincar possibilita &#224;s crian&#231;as com defici&#234;ncia visual a aquisi&#231;&#227;o de confian&#231;a na explora&#231;&#227;o do espa&#231;o f&#237;sico, dos objetos, assim como a elabora&#231;&#227;o conceitual.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: This study investigated what kind of playing and how visually impaired children play in the family and educational contexts, aiming at understanding playing and the role of toys in these children's development. The study was based on the historical-cultural perspective, mainly considering Vygotsky's studies. Empirical material was collected from five families with blind or short-sighted children and from the specialized institution these children attend. We adopted semi-structured interviews with parents and educators and observation of the relevant contexts. The data collected was categorized and theorized through content analysis. We concluded that the mediation of another person during playing enables the visually impaired child to develop confidence to explore the physical space, objects and to elaborate concepts.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: El presente estudio investig&#243; c&#243;mo y de qu&#233; ni&#241;os con discapacidad visual juegan en el contexto familiar y educacional, con el prop&#243;sito de comprender o jugar y, el papel del juguete en el desarrollo de estos ni&#241;os. Nos apoyamos en la perspectiva hist&#243;rico-cultural considerando, especialmente, los estudios de Vygotsky. La coleta de materialidades emp&#237;ricas ocurri&#243; en las cinco familias de los ni&#241;os ciegos o con baja visi&#243;n pesquisadas, y en la instituci&#243;n especializada que ellas frecuentan. Adoptamos entrevistas semi-estructuradas con padres y educadores, y observaciones en los contextos mencionados. Los datos colectados fueron categorizados y teorizados por medio del an&#225;lisis de contenido.
