A aplicação do questionário Fit Choice ao universo total de estudantes dos cursos de formação profissional para a docência da Universidade do Porto, em 2023-2024, revelou resultados como: o primeiro motivo para a escolha da profissão é o gosto pela área de estudo, seguido do contributo para a sociedade e para o futuro de crianças e adolescentes e do gosto pelo ensino. Os estudantes inquiridos estão motivados para a profissão, embora a considerem difícil, exigente (conhecimento especializado e trabalho) e com pouco retorno (salarial e social); estão muito satisfeitos com a escolha feita, apesar de muitos terem sido dissuadidos e encorajados a escolher outra profissão. No atual contexto de falta de professores, este conhecimento pode informar políticas educacionais e estratégias de recrutamento de novos candidatos à profissão docente.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The study presented aimed to understand what attracts Portuguese students to choose the teaching profession. The application of the Fit Choice questionnaire to the entire student body of teacher training courses at the University of Porto, in 2023-2024, revealed results such as: the primary reason for choosing the profession is the passion for the field of study, followed by the contribution to society and the future of children and adolescents, and the love for teaching. The surveyed students are motivated for the profession, although they consider it challenging, demanding (in terms of specialized knowledge and work), and offering limited rewards (both financial and social); they are delighted with their choice, despite many having been dissuaded and encouraged to choose another profession. In the current context of teacher shortages, this knowledge can inform education policies and strategies for recruiting new candidates to the teaching profession.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen El estudio presentado tuvo como objetivo conocer lo que atrae a los estudiantes portugueses a elegir la profesión docente. La aplicación del cuestionario Fit Choice al universo total de estudiantes de los cursos de formación profesional para la docencia de la Universidad de Oporto, en 2023-2024, reveló resultados como: el primer motivo para la elección de la profesión es el gusto por el área de estudio, seguido de la contribución a la sociedad y al futuro de niños y adolescentes, y el gusto por la enseñanza. Los estudiantes encuestados están motivados para la profesión, aunque la consideren difícil, exigente (conocimiento especializado y trabajo) y con poco retorno (salarial y social); están muy satisfechos con la elección realizada, a pesar de que muchos fueron disuadidos y animados a elegir otra profesión.
