Se realizó una investigación cualitativa utilizando el método biográfico-narrativo. Los instrumentos de recolección de la información fueron la entrevista semiestructurada y los relatos de vida. Los resultados muestran que la vocación docente surge a partir del deseo de contribuir con el desarrollo del país. Por otro lado, las dificultades que se enfrentan mientras se lleva a cabo la práctica educativa se relacionan con la falta de apoyo gubernamental, lo que produce deterioro en el propio sistema de enseñanza. Además, se evidencia la necesidad de una constante preparación para brindar una educación con mayor calidad. En las discusiones se contrasta con otros trabajos efectuados en el plano internacional y se concluye en la necesidad del compromiso del Estado en la entrega de los apoyos necesarios para propiciar una formación del profesorado fundamentada en la justicia social.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo Neste artigo, sete professores descrevem como é ensinar em escolas públicas de Honduras. A pesquisa qualitativa foi realizada usando o método biográfico-narrativo. Os instrumentos usados para coletar informações foram entrevistas semiestruturadas e histórias de vida. Os resultados mostram que a vocação para o ensino surge do desejo de contribuir para o desenvolvimento do país. Por outro lado, as dificuldades enfrentadas no exercício da prática educacional estão relacionadas à falta de apoio governamental, o que gera a deterioração do próprio sistema de ensino. Além disso, é evidente a necessidade de preparação constante para oferecer uma educação de maior qualidade. A discussão contrasta com outros trabalhos internacionais e conclui que é necessário o compromisso do Estado para fornecer o apoio necessário à formação de professores com base na justiça social.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In this article, seven teachers describe the meanings of their work as teachers in public schools in the Honduran educational system. The paper presents qualitative research carried out using the biographical-narrative method. The instruments used to collect information were semi-structured interviews and life stories. The results show that the teaching vocation arises from the desire to contribute to the country's development. On the other hand, the teachers explain the difficulties faced while carrying out the educational practice to the lack of governmental support, which deteriorates the teaching system. In addition, it becomes necessary a constant preparation to provide higher-quality education. The discussion agrees with other international studies and concludes that the State must commit itself by providing tangible support to promote teacher training based on social justice.]]></p></abstract>
