Partiu de pesquisadores que constituem leitura clássica sobre a temática e produções recentes que apresentam uma visão crítica sobre o ato de avaliar. Propôs-se compreender o significado da avaliação com aporte na Teoria Histórico-Cultural que tem no Materialismo Histórico-Dialético os fundamentos para compreender a constituição da psique humana. Constatou-se que o significado da avaliação é proveniente dos processos de trabalho - atividade que marca o desenvolvimento humano. A avaliação educacional é condizente com os fins estabelecidos para a educação e a concepção de avaliação é definidora dos procedimentos avaliativos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Este artículo es el resultado de un estudio teórico sobre evaluación. Partió de investigadores que constituyen lecturas clásicas sobre el tema y producciones recientes que presentan una mirada crítica sobre el acto de evaluar. Se propuso comprender el significado de la evaluación a partir de la Teoría Histórico-Cultural que tiene en el Materialismo Histórico-Dialéctico las bases para comprender la constitución de la psique humana. Se encontró que el significado de la evaluación proviene de los procesos de trabajo, actividad que marca el desarrollo humano. La evaluación educativa es consistente con los propósitos establecidos para la educación y el concepto de evaluación define los procedimientos evaluativos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This article is the result of a theoretical study on evaluation. It started from researchers who constitute classic reading on the theme and recent productions that present a critical view on the act of evaluating. It was proposed to understand the meaning of the evaluation based on the Historical-Cultural Theory that has in the Historical-Dialectical Materialism the foundations to understand the constitution of the human psyche. It was found that the meaning of the evaluation comes from work processes - an activity that marks human development. Educational assessment is consistent with the purposes established for education and the concept of assessment is defining the assessment procedures.]]></p></abstract>
