É tendo por referência um conceito de educação para a cidadania, que inclui o sentido que lhe é atribuído enquanto prática da vivência ativa e responsável dessa cidadania, e aqui clarificado, que neste texto se dá a conhecer o lugar que tem tido a educação para a cidadania nas políticas educativas em Portugal e, particularmente, num projeto educativo de uma escola que elege como um dos seus eixos de ação trabalhar para proporcionar aos alunos vivências de cidadania. Recorre-se a discursos e perceções de professores sobre os resultados finais do projeto. Nesse projeto, entre outros aspetos, constata-se que as ações orientadas para uma educação para a cidadania não se limitam às fronteiras das disciplinas e do espaço escolar mas, antes, se ampliam a situações de forte relação com os contextos de vida.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Citizenship education, meaning the active exercise of citizenship, is a recommendation which aim at influencing educational policies andwith some impact in school curriculum. In this article, the concept of citizenship underlying our argument is that citizenship means a lived and responsible experience. Therefore, our objective is to clarify this concept, also by analyzing and discussing the relevance and the place that citizenship education hasplayed in educational policies in Portugal. This article will take into consideration a school project towards citizenship education, which aimed to create opportunities for pupils to learn and experience citizenship. Our major focus will be, empirically, on teachers’ discourses and perceptions about the results of this project. In this experience, as in other dimensions, we could realize that actions which are specifically oriented to a citizenship education cannot be limited by disciplines or school borders. On the contrary, these actions are cross boarders and broaden to different life contexts.]]></p></abstract>
