Do prisma da História da Educação, analisa-se esse espaço de conhecimento, de reflexão sobre o agir humano e de produção de saberes com os seguintes objetivos principais: a) tecer considerações históricas sobre a universidade medieval por meio da valorização do passado e das raízes da universidade contemporânea b) abordar as relações entre professor e aluno na universidade medieval e as mudanças que as permearam. O texto contém dois subtítulos: A universidade medieval e sua função social e A universidade medieval: professores e estudantes. Quanto à revisão bibliográfica, apoiamo-nos em autores que abordaram a instituição pelo prisma da História da Educação: Guizot (1907), Ullmann (2000), Le Goff (1984; 2017), Verger (1990), De Boni (2005), Oliveira (2007; 2008), além de Tomás de Aquino (2006), um dos grandes nomes da filosofia escolástica. Considerando-se que a História é essencial à memória das civilizações, buscou-se aporte teórico-metodológico nos princípios da História Social, utilizando os conceitos de longa duração e de totalidade e obras nas quais Marc Bloch (2001) e Fernand Braudel (1992) mostram a importância da história para a construção do conhecimento intelectual, cultural e social. Enfim, considera-se que a universidade, como espaço institucional de produção do saber, deve ser objeto de debates sobre sua função social e sobre a responsabilidade dos intelectuais na formação humana, na valorização do conhecimento e na construção de rumos sociais.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The object of this article is the social and historical importance of medieval university. From the perspective of the History of Education, this space of knowledge, reflection on human action and production of knowledge is analyzed with the following main objectives: a) to make historical considerations about the medieval university by appreciating the past and the roots of the contemporary university, and b) to address the relationships between teacher and student in the medieval university and the changes that permeated them. The text contains two subtitles: The medieval university and its social function and The medieval university: teachers and students. As for the bibliographical review, we relied on authors who approached the institution from the perspective of the History of Education: Guizot (1907), Ullmann (2000), Le Goff (1984; 2017), Verger (1990), De Boni (2005), Oliveira (2007; 2008), besides Thomas Aquinas (2006), one of the great names in scholastic philosophy. Considering that history is essential to the memory of civilizations, we sought theoretical and methodological support in the principles of Social History, using the concepts of long duration and totality, and works in which Marc Bloch (2001) and Fernand Braudel (1992) show the importance of history for the construction of intellectual, cultural, and social knowledge. Finally, we consider that university, as an institutional space for knowledge production, must be the object of debates about its social function and about the responsibility of intellectuals in human education, in the valorization of knowledge, and in the construction of social directions.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen El objetivo de este artículo es la importancia social e histórica de la universidad medieval. Desde la perspectiva de la Historia de la Educación, se analiza este espacio de conocimiento, reflexión sobre la acción humana y producción de saberes con los siguientes objetivos principales: a) hacer consideraciones históricas sobre la universidad medieval valorando el pasado y las raíces de la contemporánea universidad b) abordar las relaciones entre profesor y alumno en la universidad medieval y los cambios que las permearon. El texto contiene dos subtítulos: La universidad medieval y su función social y La universidad medieval: profesores y alumnos. En cuanto a la revisión bibliográfica, nos apoyamos en autores que abordaron la institución a través del prisma de la Historia de la Educación: Guizot (1907), Ullmann (2000), Le Goff (1984; 2017), Verger (1990), De Boni (2005), Oliveira (2007; 2008), así como Tomás de Aquino (2006), uno de los grandes nombres de la filosofía escolástica. Considerando que la Historia es esencial para la memoria de las civilizaciones, se buscó un aporte teórico-metodológico en los principios de la Historia Social, utilizando los conceptos de larga duración y totalidad y trabajos en los que Marc Bloch (2001) y Fernand Braudel (1992) muestran la importancia de la historia para la construcción del conocimiento intelectual, cultural y social. Finalmente, se considera que la universidad, como espacio institucional de producción de conocimiento, debe ser objeto de debates sobre su función social y sobre la responsabilidad de los intelectuales en la formación humana, en la valorización del saber y en la construcción de los rumos sociales.]]></p></abstract>
