A investigação está ancorada nos pressupostos teóricos vinculados a história da leitura, com o que propõe o historiador Roger Chartier, e aos conceitos da sociologia da leitura e da cultura, discutidos por Bernard Lahire. A análise das trajetórias individuais permitiu compreender que apesar das dificuldades de acesso à escola, havia uma forte crença na cultura escrita, como algo fundamental para a formação cidadã. Ainda, o estudo dá visibilidade à circulação de manuscritos e impressos no meio rural como principal forma de informação e comunicação no período analisado, sendo possível vislumbrar a diversidade de relações estabelecidas com a cultura escrita no meio rural.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The article discusses issues related to the trajectory of assiduous readers, in order to demonstrate strategies for access and use of written culture in rural areas, especially between the 1920s and 1940s, period in which these readers had their first contacts with reading and writing. The research is based on the theoretical assumptions tied to the history of reading, studied by the historian Roger Chartier, and the concepts of reading and cultural sociology, discussed by Bernard Lahire. The analysis of individual trajectories allowed the researcher to understand that despite the difficulties of access to school, there was a strong belief in written culture, as something important to civic education. Still, the study provides visibility to the circulation of manuscripts and printed materials in rural areas as the main form of information and communication in the analyzed period, making possible to glimpse the diversity of relationships established with the written culture in rural areas.]]></p></abstract>
