Com base em pesquisa bibliogr&#225;fica e documental, atentamos, especificamente sobre: a rela&#231;&#227;o entre grupos escolares, m&#233;todo intuitivo e higiene; a aten&#231;&#227;o aos corpos em meio a pr&#225;ticas gerais, tais como trabalhos manuais, recreio e exerc&#237;cio de escrita; e, sobretudo, a pr&#225;tica espec&#237;fica de exerc&#237;cios f&#237;sicos como a gin&#225;stica sueca e a calistenia. Os grupos escolares foram implantados com uma nova cultura escolar baseada em preceitos pedag&#243;gicos considerados essenciais para a constru&#231;&#227;o do cidad&#227;o republicano do in&#237;cio do s&#233;culo XX.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In this article, we consider what we call the process of body schooling (escolariza&#231;&#227;o de corpos) in the school culture of school groups of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, at the beginning of the 20th Century. Based on bibliographical and documental research, we focus specifically on the relationship between school groups, the intuitive method, and hygiene; attention to the body in the midst of general practices, such as manual tasks, recess, and the activity of writing; and, above all, the specific practice of physical exercises, such as Swiss gymnastics and calisthenics. The school groups were seeded with a new school culture based on pedagogical principles considered essential for fashioning a citizen of the republic at the beginning of the 20th Century.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen En este art&#237;culo nos extendemos sobre lo que llamamos de proceso de escolarizaci&#243;n de cuerpos presente en la cultura escolar de los grupos escolares de Rio Grande do Norte en el inicio del siglo XX. Con base en una investigaci&#243;n bibliogr&#225;fica y documental, abordamos, espec&#237;ficamente sobre: la relaci&#243;n entre grupos escolares, m&#233;todo intuitivo e higiene; la atenci&#243;n a los cuerpos en medio de las practicas generales, tales como trabajos manuales, recreo y ejercicio de escritura; y sobretodo, la practica especifica de ejercicios f&#237;sicos como la gimnasia sueca y calistenia. Los grupos escolares fueron permeados con una nueva cultura escolar basada en preceptos pedag&#243;gicos considerados esenciales para la construcci&#243;n del ciudadano republicano de inicio del siglo XX.]]></p></abstract>
