Tendo a abordagem qualitativa de pesquisa como premissa, os dados foram obtidos por meio de entrevistas realizadas com gestores (as) de seis escolas dos municípios de Mauá e São Caetano do Sul (SP). Os resultados mostraram que a chegada de um professor homem nas escolas de EI causa receio entre gestores e pais de alunos. Esse receio está atrelado ao fato de que os pais não consideram viável que professores homens tenham contato físico com as crianças por considerarem que essa é uma atividade para as professoras. As discussões sobre gênero não são comuns nas escolas de EI, mas, com a chegada de um professor, o assunto aflora entre os profissionais da escola, mas não entre as crianças que não têm essas preocupações.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This article describes and analyzes the school principals&#8217; conceptions of Early Childhood Education (EI) schools regarding the role of men at this level of education. With the qualitative research approach as a premise, data were obtained through interviews carried out with managers of six schools in the municipalities of Maua and São Caetano do Sul (SP). The results showed that the arrival of a male teacher in EI schools causes fear among managers and parents of students. This fear is linked to the fact that parents do not consider it viable for male teachers to have physical contact with children because they consider this to be an activity for female teachers. Discussions about gender are not common in ECEC schools, but, with the arrival of a teacher, the subject comes up among school professionals, but not among children who do not have these concerns.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Este artículo describe y analiza las concepciones de los directivos de escuelas de Educación Infantil (IE) sobre el papel de los hombres en este nivel educativo. Con el enfoque de investigación cualitativa como premisa, los datos fueron obtenidos a través de entrevistas realizadas a directores de seis escuelas de los municipios de Maua y São Caetano do Sul (SP). Los resultados mostraron que la llegada de un profesor varón a las escuelas de la IE provoca miedo entre los directivos y padres de los alumnos. Este miedo está vinculado a que los padres no consideran viable que los profesores tengan contacto físico con los niños porque consideran que es una actividad para profesoras. Las discusiones sobre género no son habituales en las escuelas de EAPI, pero, con la llegada de un profesor, el tema surge entre los profesionales de la escuela, pero no entre los niños que no tienen estas preocupaciones.]]></p></abstract>
