Entre diferenças e divergências quanto à cultura popular, com sua heterogeneidade cultural, étnica, regional e sua escassa tradição de luta operária, havia pontos de aproximação: o Serviço de Extensão Cultural da Universidade do Recife, os Centros Populares de Cultura e os Centros Regionais de Pesquisa Educacional apostavam na educação para o fortalecimento da democracia e no desenvolvimento econômico e social, bem como buscavam propostas sob medida para o âmbito educacional. Assim, a pesquisa e o diálogo, com suas exigências e práticas, constituíram-se parte essencial da energia considerada subversiva. Os achados e as repercussões das pesquisas aumentaram os receios de militares e civis, pois as mudanças alteravam um suposto equilíbrio e um ajustamento dos indivíduos ao meio social, segundo os setores conservadores e dominantes do País.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Seeking to unearth bibliographic sources and based on the indiciary paradigm, this study aims to understand society&#8217;s progressive approach to the political and educational problems of the 1950s and 1960s in Brazil. Within the differences and divergences on what to do and what to expect from popular culture - which has its cultural, ethnic and regional heterogeneity - and within its limited tradition of working-class activism, there were points of approximation: the Department of Cultural Extension of the University of Recife, the Centers of Popular Culture and the Regional Centers of Educational Research were invested on the education to reinforce democracy for economic and social development; searching, as well, for propositions fitted specifically to the educational field. Thus, research and dialogue, with their demands and practices, have made an essential part of what was considered subversive energy. The findings and repercussions of these researches increased fear among military people and civilians, considering that the implemented changes altered the apparent equilibrium and how individuals adjusted to the social medium, according to conservative and dominant sectors of the country.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: Este artículo tiene como objetivo, en la búsqueda de fuentes bibliográficas y con base en el paradigma indiciario, comprender los enfoques progresistas de la sociedad sobre los problemas políticos y educativos de los años 1950 y 1960 en Brasil. Entre las diferencias y divergencias cuanto a la cultura popular, con su heterogeneidad cultural, étnica, regional y su escasa tradición de lucha obrera, había puntos de aproximación: el Servicio de Extensión Cultural de la Universidad de Recife, los Centros Populares de Cultura y los Centros Regionales de Investigación Educativa apostaban en la educación para el fortalecimiento de la democracia y en el desarrollo económico y social, así como buscaban propuestas adecuadas para el ámbito educativo. Así, la investigación y el diálogo, con sus exigencias y prácticas, constituyeron parte esencial de la energía considerada subversiva.
