Apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa que investigou as relações sociais de gênero nesse nível de ensino em uma escola na qual atuava um homem como professor. Para a consecução da pesquisa foram observadas as práticas pedagógicas de uma professora e do professor de Educação Infantil. Ao final das observações foram entrevistados: a professora, o professor, a coordenadora pedagógica, a diretora e uma atendente de creche. Com base nas contribuições teóricas acerca de cultura e gênero e da análise do material empírico, mostra-se que a identidade masculina e feminina, bem como os papéis sociais para ambos os sexos, historicamente, são construções humanas que podem ser modificadas, principalmente na escola.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The text aims to reflect about masculinity and femininity in children’s education, an almost entirely feminine environment, bringing findings of a study that investigated the social relations of gender in this level of teaching in a school where a man worked as a teacher. Data was composed by observations of pedagogical practices of a woman teacher and a man teacher of Early Childhood Education. After that, those teachers, the pedagogical coordinator, the headmaster and a nursery worker were interviewed. Based on theoretical contributions about culture and gender, the paper shows that the masculine and the feminine identities and social roles for both sexes, historically, are human constructions that can be modified, especially at school.]]></p></abstract>
