<self-uri xlink:href="http://educa.fcc.org.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2177-62102015000200283&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://educa.fcc.org.br/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2177-62102015000200283&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://educa.fcc.org.br/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2177-62102015000200283&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[A pegada ecol&#243;gica (PE) &#233; um c&#225;lculo da quantidade de &#225;rea de terra e &#225;gua (por exemplo, floresta, solos agr&#237;colas e rios) que um indiv&#237;duo, popula&#231;&#227;o humana, divis&#227;o pol&#237;tica (cidade ou pa&#237;s) ou uma institui&#231;&#227;o requer para produzir os recursos que usa e para assimilar os seus res&#237;duos, utilizando a tecnologia dispon&#237;vel. A PE &#233; uma forma de traduzir a percep&#231;&#227;o de sustentabilidade em a&#231;&#227;o p&#250;blica. Neste texto, avaliamos o uso da PE como ferramenta pedag&#243;gica em a&#231;&#245;es de educa&#231;&#227;o ambiental em dois cursos on-line. A maioria dos alunos ficou assustada com a PE obtida atrav&#233;s de calculadoras disponibilizadas em sites. Por outro lado, os alunos deixaram coment&#225;rios positivos sobre a efici&#234;ncia da PE para a avalia&#231;&#227;o do impacto ambiental. Acreditamos que a PE &#233; uma ferramenta eficiente para ser usada em a&#231;&#245;es de educa&#231;&#227;o ambiental em cursos on-line.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The ecological footprint (EF) is a calculation of the amount of land and water area (e.g., forest, farmland and rivers) that an individual, human population, political division (city or country) or an institution requires to produce the resources it uses and to absorb its wastes, using available technology. The EF is a way to translate the perception of sustainability in public action. In this paper, we evaluate the use of EF as a pedagogical tool in environmental education on two online courses. Most students got frightened by the EF obtained on calculators available on websites. Moreover, students have provided positive feedback on the effectiveness of EF for the environmental impact assessment. We believe that EF is an efficient tool to be used on online courses of environmental education.]]></p></abstract>
