<self-uri xlink:href="http://educa.fcc.org.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2177-62102017000300336&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://educa.fcc.org.br/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2177-62102017000300336&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://educa.fcc.org.br/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2177-62102017000300336&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo:  Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar, pela &#243;tica dos Direitos Humanos, experi&#234;ncias individuais, sistemas (leis, pol&#237;ticas, diretrizes) e atitudes sociais que colaboram (ou n&#227;o) para o processo de empoderamento e autoadvocacia na vida de pessoas com defici&#234;ncia no Brasil e no Canad&#225;. Para isso, foi desenvolvido um estudo que parte da seguinte problem&#225;tica: qual a realidade pol&#237;tico-legal e sociocultural do Brasil e do Canad&#225; que contribui para a garantia dos Direitos Humanos relacionados com as experi&#234;ncias de empoderamento e autoadvocacia de pessoas com defici&#234;ncia? Por meio de uma abordagem qualitativa, adotei os Estudos Culturais como campo de an&#225;lise e foram realizadas entrevistas com pessoas com defici&#234;ncia de diferentes regi&#245;es brasileiras e do Canad&#225;. As experi&#234;ncias relatadas no Canad&#225; e no Brasil evidenciam que a aquisi&#231;&#227;o do empoderamento e da autoadvocacia &#233; inerente ao sujeito e a sua hist&#243;ria de vida, seja em rela&#231;&#245;es mais positivas ou em rela&#231;&#245;es opressoras e de exclus&#227;o.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  This article aims to analyze, from the perspective of human rights, individual experiences, systems (laws, policies, guidelines) and social attitudes that contribute (or not) to the process of empowerment and self-advocacy in the lives of people with disabilities in Brazil and Canada. For this, we developed a study that starts off from the following question: what is the political-legal and socio-cultural reality of Brazil and Canada that contributes to the guarantee of human rights related to experiences of empowerment and self-advocacy of people with disabilities? Through a qualitative approach, we adopted cultural studies as a field of analysis, and interviews were conducted with people with disabilities in different regions of Brazil and Canada. Both experiences showed that the acquisition of empowerment and selfadvocacy is inherent to the subject and his life story, both in more positive relationships and oppressive and excluding ones.]]></p></abstract>
