A relevância da investigação encontra-se diante das novas proposições curriculares realizadas a partir da Lei 13.415/2017, denominada Novo EM. Realizamos um estudo qualitativo historiográfico analisando documentos parametrizadores do ensino brasileiro com foco no EM, em que tomamos como ponto de partida a Reforma Francisco Campos. Como resultados destacamos que a identidade do EM foi sendo alterada no decorrer dos anos a partir das novas demandas curriculares propostas. A identidade do EM no Brasil passou de uma perspectiva de ensino que se restringia a elite governante do país, seguida de uma formação profissional técnica e, por fim temos como característica marcante o desenvolvimento do protagonismo juvenil por meio da flexibilização curricular. Portanto, ressaltamos a importância em refletirmos acerca das contribuições históricas para a construção do EM no Brasil no sentido de promovermos novos entendimentos da necessidade de mudança curricular para essa etapa da Educação Básica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT: In this article we present a historiographical study carried out with the objective of identifying aspects that contributed to characterize the identity of High School (EM) in Brazil. The relevance of the investigation lies in the face of new curricular propositions made from Law 13.415/2017, called New High School. We carried out a qualitative historiographical study analyzing parameterizing documents of Brazilian education with a focus on EM, in which we took the Francisco Campos Reform as a starting point. As a result, we highlight that the identity of the EM was being changed over the years from the new curricular demands proposed. The identity of the EM in Brazil went from a teaching perspective that was restricted to the country's ruling elite, followed by technical professional training and, finally, we have as a striking feature the development of youth protagonism through curricular flexibility. Therefore, we emphasize the importance of reflecting on the historical contributions to the construction of EM in Brazil in order to promote new understandings of the need for curricular change for this stage of Basic Education.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN: En este artículo presentamos un estudio historiográfico realizado con el objetivo de identificar aspectos que contribuyeron a caracterizar la identidad de la Escuela Secundaria (EM) en Brasil. La relevancia de la investigación radica frente a las nuevas propuestas curriculares realizadas a partir de la Ley 13.415/2017, denominada Nueva Escuela Secundaria. Realizamos un estudio historiográfico cualitativo analizando documentos parametrizadores de la educación brasileña con foco en la EM, en el que tomamos como punto de partida la Reforma Francisco Campos. Como resultado, destacamos que la identidad de la EM fue cambiando a lo largo de los años a partir de las nuevas demandas curriculares propuestas. La identidad de la EM en Brasil pasó de una perspectiva de enseñanza restringida a la élite dirigente del país, seguida de la formación técnico profesional y, finalmente, tenemos como característica destacada el desarrollo del protagonismo juvenil a través de la flexibilidad curricular. Por lo tanto, destacamos la importancia de reflexionar sobre las contribuciones históricas a la construcción de la EM en Brasil para promover nuevas comprensiones sobre la necesidad de cambios curriculares para esta etapa de la Educación Básica.]]></p></abstract>
