Defende-se a posi&#231;&#227;o que a educa&#231;&#227;o para a vida democr&#225;tica depende do modo como tal tens&#227;o &#233; conduzida nos processos educativos. Desse modo, dado que tanto a vulnerabilidade quanto a autossufici&#234;ncia s&#227;o aspectos intr&#237;nsecos &#224; condi&#231;&#227;o humana, a educa&#231;&#227;o para a democracia depende do cultivo de uma autossufici&#234;ncia moderada na busca de sentido para a vulnerabilidade humana. Tal cultivo passa, pois, por orientar a vulnerabilidade humana em dire&#231;&#227;o a uma autossufici&#234;ncia que n&#227;o perca de vista a fragilidade do bem-viver humano.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  The paper takes Martha Nussbaum as a reference to address the classical tension between human self-sufficiency and vulnerability and discuss the implications of such tension in the field of education for democracy. The notion that education for democratic living depends on how that tension is conducted in educational processes is defended. Thus, considering that both vulnerability and self-sufficiency are intrinsic to the human condition, the education for democracy relies on the growth of moderate self-sufficiency in the search for a meaning to human vulnerability. Such growing shall, then, lead human vulnerability towards some self-sufficiency that will not lose sight of the fragility of human good living.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen:  El art&#237;culo percibe Martha Nussbaum como referencia para tematizar la tensi&#243;n cl&#225;sica existente entre vulnerabilidad y autosuficiencia humanas y discutir las implicaciones de la tensi&#243;n en el campo de la educaci&#243;n para la democracia. Se defiende la posici&#243;n de que la educaci&#243;n para la vida democr&#225;tica depende de la manera como tal tensi&#243;n es conducida en los procesos educativos. As&#237;, ya que tanto la vulnerabilidad como la autosuficiencia son aspectos intr&#237;nsecos a la condici&#243;n humana, la educaci&#243;n para la democracia depende del cultivo de una autosuficiencia moderada en la b&#250;squeda de sentido para la vulnerabilidad humana. Ese cultivo pasa, pues, a orientar la vulnerabilidad humana en direcci&#243;n a una autosuficiencia que no pierde la fragilidad del bien vivir humano.]]></p></abstract>
