São utilizados Relatórios de Presidência de Província e imprensa, juntamente de referenciais sobre processos históricos de criação e funcionamento de uma disciplina. Os resultados mostram que a Química emergiu no Ensino Secundário por meio da ação de docentes luteranos, especificamente no Liceu, num ambiente de conflitos entre católicos e conservadores e a presidência provincial, ente administrativo que atribuiu àquela instituição a formação científica da juventude para o progresso, em oposição à tradição humanista cristã. Detectamos também que na Biblioteca Provincial havia material com conteúdos de Química, o que pode ser vinculado aos demais saberes relacionados a esta ciência presentes em manuais e livros em circulação no Brasil no século XIX.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Se analiza la constitución de la Química como asignatura escolar en la Provincia de Santa Catarina durante la década de 1850. Se utilizan informes de la Presidencia de la Provincia y de la prensa, junto con referencias sobre los procesos históricos de creación y funcionamiento de una asignatura escolar. Los resultados muestran que la Química surgió en la Educación Secundaria a través de la acción de profesores luteranos, específicamente en el Liceu, en un ambiente de conflictos entre católicos y conservadores y la presidencia provincial, ente administrativo que atribuía a esa institución la formación científica de juventud para el progreso, en oposición a la tradición humanista cristiana. También detectamos que en la Biblioteca Provincial existía material con contenido de Química, que puede vincularse con otros conocimientos relacionados con esa ciencia quienes estuvieron presentes en manuales y libros que circulaban en Brasil en el siglo XIX.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract It analyzes the constitution of Chemistry as a school subject in the Province of Santa Catarina during the 1850s. Reports from the Presidency of the Province and the press are used, together with references on the historical processes of creation and functioning of a school subject. The results show that Chemistry emerged in Secondary Education through the action of Lutheran teachers, specifically in the Liceu (Lyceum), in an environment of conflicts between Catholics and Conservatives and the provincial presidency, the administrative entity that attributed to that institution the scientific training of youth for progress, in opposition to the Christian humanist tradition. We also detected that in the Provincial Library there was material with Chemistry content, which can be linked to other knowledge related to this science present in manuals and books circulating in Brazil in the 19th century.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="fr"><p><![CDATA[Résumé Il analyse la constitution de la chimie comme discipline scolaire dans la province de Santa Catarina au cours des années 1850. Des rapports de la Présidence de la Province et de la presse sont utilisés, ainsi que des références sur les processus historiques de création et de fonctionnement d'une matière scolaire. Les résultats montrent que la chimie est apparue dans l'enseignement secondaire grâce à l'action des enseignants luthériens, en particulier au Liceu, dans un environnement de conflits entre catholiques et conservateurs et la présidence provinciale, l'entité administrative qui attribuait à cette institution la formation scientifique des la jeunesse pour le progrès, en opposition à la tradition humaniste chrétienne. Nous avons également détecté que dans la Bibliothèque provinciale il y avait du matériel avec un contenu en chimie, qui peut être lié à d'autres connaissances liées à cette science présentes dans les manuels et les livres circulant au Brésil au XIX siècle.]]></p></abstract>
