Basada en el indiscutible derecho de toda persona a recibir educación gratuita, obligatoria y laica, siempre tuvo como finalidad garantizar a los más humildes y marginados el acceso a todos los bienes culturales de nuestra sociedad. Sin embargo, em pleno siglo XXI vemos que en la ambición de su propósito está la razón de su fracaso. Este ensayo intenta localizar los fallos de un sistema de educación pública que, pretendendo ser perfecto, resultó ser injusto, excluyente y reproductor.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo Historicamente, a educação uruguaia sempre foi marcada pelos princípios da universalidade e da igualdade. Com base no direito indiscutível de cada pessoa à educação gratuita, obrigatória e laica, sempre teve como objetivo garantir aos mais humildes e marginalizados o acesso a todos os bens culturais de nossa sociedade. Porém, no século XXI, vemos que na ambição de seu propósito está a razão de seu fracasso. Este ensaio tenta localizar as falhas de um sistema de ensino público que, fingindo ser perfeito, se revelou injusto, exclusivo e reprodutivo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Historically, Uruguayan education has always been marked by the principles of universality and equality. Based on the indisputable right of everyone to receive free, compulsory and secular education, it has always aimed to guarantee the most humble and marginalized access to all the cultural assets of our society. However, in the XXI century we see that the ambition of its purpose is the reason for its failure. This essay attempts to locate the flaws of a public education system that, pretending to be perfect, turned out to be unfair, exclusive and reproductive.]]></p></abstract>
