A figura destacada é a de G. Stanley Hall, que liderou o movimento tanto no seu âmbito mais amplo, incluindo professores primários, jardineiras e pais, como no sentido estrito de criação de um campo de estudo para o qual disciplinas convergiriam para o estudo da criança e do adolescente nas suas mais diferentes dimensões. No início, o epicentro institucional do child study foi a Clark University, presidida por Hall, tendo sido o seu órgão principal de divulgação a revista Pedagogical Seminary. Além de examinar o evolucionismo específico do child study comandado por Hall, o artigo aborda o processo de hegemonização da Psicologia sobre as demais disciplinas nos estudos da infância.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[This article focuses the child study between the late nineteenth century and the first decade of the twentieth century in the United States. A prominent figure is G. Stanley Hall who led the movement both in its broader context, including school teachers, kindergarteners and parents, as in the strict sense of creating a field of study for which disciplines would converge to the study of children and adolescents in their different dimensions. Earlier, the institutional epicenter of child study was Clark University whose President was Hall; Pedagogical Seminary was its main organ. In addition to examining the specific child study led by Hall, this article also discusses the process of hegemony of psychology on the other disciplines in child studies.]]></p></abstract>

La figura destacada es la de G. Stanley Hall, que lideró el movimiento tanto en su ámbito más amplio, incluyendo maestros primarios, de jardín de infancia y padres, como en el sentido estricto de creación de un campo de estudio en el que las asignaturas convergerían para el estudio del niño y del adolescente en sus diferentes dimensiones. Al principio, el núcleo institucional del child study fue la Clark University, comandada por Hall, siendo su principal medio de divulgación la revista Pedagogical Seminary. Además de examinar el evolucionismo específico del child study dirigido por Hall, el artículo trata sobre el proceso de hegemonización de la Psicología acerca de las demás asignaturas en los estudios de la infancia.]]></p></abstract>
