Exp&#245;e um breve hist&#243;rico sobre a presen&#231;a dessa popula&#231;&#227;o, seu pertencimento &#233;tnico e a conquista da cidadania neste pa&#237;s, com o foco na educa&#231;&#227;o. Reflete estudos que analisam a condi&#231;&#227;o de estudantes ind&#237;genas que ingressam na educa&#231;&#227;o superior e a luta pela sua perman&#234;ncia na universidade p&#250;blica. Essa luta enseja o debate sobre o papel social e formativo dessa institui&#231;&#227;o e a necessidade de sistematizar pol&#237;ticas que atendam &#224; demanda desse novo estudante na perspectiva intercultural.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[This paper aims to discuss some historical and intercultural features regarding the access of young Indians (Native Brazilians) to higher education in Brazil. A brief historical overview of the presence of indigenous individuals, their ethnic belonging and their fight for citizenship in the country, is presented with a focus on education. Studies analyzing the condition of Indian students in college institutions are reviewed and the current struggle of such students to remain in the public university is pointed out. Such struggle prompts the discussion about both the social and formative role of that institution and the need for the systematization of policies aimed at meeting the demands of those new students from an intercultural perspective.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Este art&#237;culo tiene como objetivo discutir algunos aspectos hist&#243;ricos e interculturales que caracterizan el acceso de los j&#243;venes ind&#237;genas a la educaci&#243;n superior en Brasil. Expone un breve panorama sobre la representaci&#243;n de esta poblaci&#243;n, su integraci&#243;n &#233;tnica y su conquista de la ciudadan&#237;a en este pa&#237;s, con &#233;nfasis en la educaci&#243;n. Discute los estudios que analizan la condici&#243;n de los acad&#233;micos ind&#237;genas que acceden a los cursos universitarios y la lucha por su permanencia en la universidad p&#250;blica. Esta lucha proporciona la discusi&#243;n sobre el papel social y formativo de esta instituci&#243;n y la necesidad de sistematizar pol&#237;ticas que satisfagan a la demanda de este nuevo estudiante en la perspectiva intercultural.]]></p></abstract>
