Enfocamos sua trajet&#243;ria como aluno e mestre do Col&#233;gio Pedro II, sua concep&#231;&#227;o de hist&#243;ria e de ensino de hist&#243;ria, e a import&#226;ncia que reputava a esse saber. A referida institui&#231;&#227;o assegurou o prest&#237;gio necess&#225;rio para ingressar nos debates educacionais do per&#237;odo. Argumentamos que o esfor&#231;o desse mestre, em defender a renova&#231;&#227;o como caminho para a melhoria da educa&#231;&#227;o hist&#243;rica no pa&#237;s, por meio da preserva&#231;&#227;o dos valores e preceitos morais e sociais cultivados no col&#233;gio, tem rela&#231;&#227;o com sua concep&#231;&#227;o de hist&#243;ria e deve ser lida sob o pano de fundo do processo de reformula&#231;&#227;o do ensino brasileiro no in&#237;cio da d&#233;cada de 1930.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[This article discusses Jonathan Serrano's renewal proposal for the teaching of History in the first decades of the Twentieth-century. We focus on his career as a student and teacher at Col&#233;gio Pedro II, his concept of History and History teaching, and the importance that he attributed on this discipline. The institution assured him the necessary prestige to enter the educational debates of the period. We argue that his efforts to defend the renewal, as a path to improve history education in the country, preserving the moral and social values obtained at the Pedro II School, is correlated to his concept of history, and should be read under the light of the process of recasting Brazilian education in the early 1930s.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[El estudio enfoca la propuesta de renovaci&#243;n de la ense&#241;anza de historia, presentada por Jonathas Serrano en las primeras d&#233;cadas del siglo XX. Enfocamos su trayectoria como alumno y profesor del Colegio Pedro II, su concepci&#243;n de historia y de la ense&#241;anza de historia, y a la importancia atribuida a ese saber. El colegio garantiz&#243; el prestigio necesario para ingresar en los debates educacionales del per&#237;odo. Argumentamos que el esfuerzo de ese profesor, en defender la renovaci&#243;n como camino para la mejora de la educaci&#243;n hist&#243;rica en el pa&#237;s, mediante la preservaci&#243;n de los valores y preceptos morales y sociales cultivados en la instituci&#243;n, est&#225; relacionado con su concepci&#243;n de historia y que debe ser comprendida a trav&#233;s del proceso de reformulaci&#243;n de la ense&#241;anza brasile&#241;a en los primeros a&#241;os de la d&#233;cada de 1930.]]></p></abstract>
