Neste texto, ser&#225; abordado o processo de organiza&#231;&#227;o dessa disciplina, com base na an&#225;lise da legisla&#231;&#227;o e dos manuais de ensino da &#233;poca, bem como das escolhas realizadas no Gin&#225;sio de Campinas entre 1896 e 1909 a respeito do processo de constru&#231;&#227;o dos laborat&#243;rios de ensino, da aquisi&#231;&#227;o dos objetos de educa&#231;&#227;o em Qu&#237;mica e dos ind&#237;cios das pr&#225;ticas pedag&#243;gicas presentes nas avalia&#231;&#245;es escolares. Demonstra-se que, no per&#237;odo considerado, predominou um ensino de Qu&#237;mica te&#243;rico e enciclop&#233;dico. Inserindo-se no campo da Hist&#243;ria da Educa&#231;&#227;o, espera-se que o texto seja uma contribui&#231;&#227;o para a compreens&#227;o das pr&#225;ticas escolares, especialmente na &#225;rea de Ci&#234;ncias.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: In the late nineteenth century, Physica/Chimica subject was incorporated into the secondary school curriculum of S&#227;o Paulo schools in a process marked by discussion on its purpose: the classical training or the training to practice. This is a study on the process of organizing this subject from the analysis of legislation and textbooks. We also analyze the choices made in the Gymnasium of Campinas between 1896 and 1909, considering the process of construction of teaching laboratories, acquisition of objects for education in chemistry and the evidence of the practices present in the school assessments. With this text on the history of science education, we expect to contribute to the understanding of school practices and demonstrate that during this period prevailed a teaching of theoretical and encyclopaedic chemistry.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen:  A finales del siglo XIX, la disciplina Physica/Chimica se incorpor&#243; en el curr&#237;culo de la ense&#241;anza secundaria de las escuelas de S&#227;o Paulo, Brasil, en un proceso marcado por la discusi&#243;n sobre su finalidad: la formaci&#243;n erudita o la formaci&#243;n a la pr&#225;ctica. En este texto ser&#225; presentado un estudio sobre el proceso de organizaci&#243;n de esta asignatura a partir del an&#225;lisis de la legislaci&#243;n y de los manuales de ense&#241;anza de la &#233;poca. Tambi&#233;n se analizar&#225;n las decisiones tomadas en la Secundaria de Campinas, Brasil, entre 1896 y 1909, teniendo en cuenta el proceso de construcci&#243;n de laboratorios de ense&#241;anza, la adquisici&#243;n de objetos de educaci&#243;n en Qu&#237;mica y las evidencias de las pr&#225;cticas pedag&#243;gicas presentes en las evaluaciones escolares. Insertado en el campo de la historia de la educaci&#243;n en ciencias, se espera, con este texto, contribuir con la comprensi&#243;n de las pr&#225;cticas escolares y demostrar que, en este per&#237;odo, predomin&#243; una ense&#241;anza de Qu&#237;mica te&#243;rica y enciclop&#233;dica. ]]></p></abstract>
