The purpose of this search, with a focus on brazilian indian ethnics, was to find how elementary school is dealing with the ethnic diversity of our society. Several components of the school system were studied: the curriculum, the textbook, the teacher and finally the student himself. Our findings sugest that indian ethnics are neither beeing studied so as to develop, in the student, the specific knowledge of the brazilian indian, nor encourage the student to consider in a wider fashion the general ethnic diversity of society.
