TECHNOLOGIES AND EDUCATION: CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE DEBATE IN PAULO FREIRE’S WORK

This article aims to analyze Paulo Freire’s contribution to support critical reflection on technology, understood as a set of techniques and its relation to education. In the current context, it is understood that one of the greatest challenges of the educational field is in the critical understanding of the relationship between technologies and education. As a method, a bibliographic review and content analysis of 15 of his books were used, with a selection of Freire’s central ideas on the subject. Among the author’s contributions are: the denunciation of the false dilemma between humanism-technology; criticism to technicism, ideologization, neoliberal pragmatism; and the necessary ethical vigilance in the face of consumerist utilitarianism that dominates science and technology in the logic of the capitalist market. It is concluded that the author’s contributions remain extremely valid for the field of education, especially the works that support ethical criteria.
