ABSTRACT The article argues in favour of curricula informed by curricular justice, which is seen as the tendency of a curriculum to reduce social inequality and cultural difference. In other words, the paper suggests that, in addition to the concern with economic inequality, the school and the curriculum should take into account the cultural plurality of Brazilian society, attempting to challenge the relations of power which produce and preserve differences. It discusses the centrality of culture in contemporary society, analyses educational strategies to deal with cultural diversity and presents some aspects to be included in the training of multicultural oriented teachers.
