The article analyzes the concepts of equality and equity (or fairness) and their connection to the ideal of social justice which, together, are fundamental human values that guide social policies (and social struggles). The substantive equality and equity (or fairness), with subtle differences in their understanding, are essential principles for the formulation of public policies for the promotion of social justice and solidarity.
