This article discusses the national guidelines for continuing teacher education. It analyzes the market-oriented, privatizing bias of Resolution CNE/CP No. 1/2020 and considers alternatives for continuing education. The methodology is bibliographic and documentary, examining the resolution’s pedagogical foundations based on Ravitch, Freitas, and Nussbaum, and its privatizing logic in light of Adrião, Dardot, Laval, and Biesta. As a counterpoint, it presents a proposal for an Extension Program for continuing education organized under a different logic. The results highlight the need to reframe continuing education and to establish collaboration regimes that place the university as the protagonist. The analyses stress the relevance of public universities in strengthening collaborative processes between university and basic education.
