In the beginning of the 1960s, Brazilian society experienced a promising atmosphere in political and educational terms, with projects committed to public education and the construction of democraticallybased social fabric. The military dictatorship interrupts this process, with a progressive political closure, restrictions upon the democratic state and persecution opponents. Among the latter, young people, the counterculture and symbols of this movement are attacked, such as psychedelic drugs. This paper seeks to observe how societal segments, among which, Catholic women’s associations and press agencies in Rio de Janeiro, mobilize themselves to conform Brazilian youth in combating “subversion” that they identified in the name of values imposed by the new regime, as well as focusing on measures conducted by the State in that sense. Dialoging with studies of Rodrigo Patto Sá Motta, Antonio Maurício Freitas BritoRosa de Olmo and Júlio Delmanto and operating with the concept of representation in the point of view of Roger Chartier, this historical research takes the years 1960-70 as its framework in Brazil and is based on different source types, such as newspapers articles, association archives, laws and decrees, statistical reports and others. As a result, we conclude that education is considered as an institutional apparatus to control and indoctrinating youth.
