Education in private spaces of freedom in the state of São Paulo

Abstract

This article presents the result of research whose objective is to analyze aspects of state policy in São Paulo with regard to the promotion of basic education in places of privation of liberty, in prisons in the Young and Adult Education modality and in CASA Foundation, regular education. It is understood that such policy shapes the curriculum and establishes the educational possibilities to be implemented in schools in these contexts. As a methodological procedure, the official documents that implemented the policy were obtained from the on the website of the São Paulo State Department of Education. From Gimeno Sacristán, it is understood that political-administrative activity prescribes the curriculum to be developed in schools, establishing possibilities and difficulties for carrying out educational processes. Analyzing the data in the confrontation with academic production on the theme, it was possible to verify that the government of São Paulo responded to the legal determinations coming from the federal government. However, the way in which education was implemented shows constraints that affect the possibilities of establishing the curriculum and, therefore, the education to be offered. The actions adopted aim more at resource efficiency and optimization, based on neoliberal and instrumental rationality, to the detriment of the emphasis on the development of educational processes related to the specificities of the context in question.
